Tattersalls Ireland Ascot & Cheltenham Sales graduates have been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks and that trend continued at the Cheltenham Open Meeting with a total of seven winners over the three days including three graded winners and a listed winner.
On Friday Finian's Oscar was a poignant winner of the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase in the colours of the Potts family for trainer Colin Tizzard. Having been purchased out of the 2016 Cheltenham November Sale by Tom Malone from Denis Murphy's Ballyboy Stables he is already a dual Grade 1 winner over hurdles and the high class son of Oscar looks set to take high rank in the novice chase division this year on the back of this display.
What A Moment followed up his success in the 2016 renewal when taking the opening race on the card The Amateur Riders Handicap Chase for Trainer David Pipe. What A Moment was purchased by Pipe from William Codd's Lingstown Stables after finishing runner up in his Maiden point-to-point from the 2014 Cheltenham December Sale.
On The Blind Side completed a hat-trick of wins for Cheltenham Sales graduates on the Friday when maintaining his unbeaten record in the Grade 2 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle for trainer Nicky Henderson and owner Alan Spence. The son of Stowaway was purchased by Highflyer Bloodstock at the 2017 Cheltenham February Sale from Paul Cashman's Glenview Stables.
On Saturday Coole Cody ran out the winner of the Martin & Co Jewellers Intermediate Handicap Hurdle in the colours of owner Wayne Clifford for trainer Michael Blake. The son of Dubai Destination was a graduate of the 2016 Ascot July Sale having been purchased by Tom Malone for £5,200.
Posh Trish was the most impressive winner of the concluding Listed Mares' bumper on the Saturday for Highclere Racing and Paul Nicholls. Always catching the eye travelling well in running the daughter of Stowaway ran on well up the hill when shaken up to win going away in the hands of Harry Cobden. She was purchased by Tom Malone from Shark Hanlon at the 2017 Festival Sale.
On the concluding day of the meeting North Hill Harvey was the first of two Graded winning graduates. The Dan Skelton trained son of Kayf Tara jumped well throughout and drew clear to win by eighteen lengths. He was produced to win his Maiden English point-to-point and sold by Tom Lacey to Mr and Mrs Kelvin-Hughes at the 2015 Cheltenham April Sale.
The highly promising Slate House continued his education and impressed when winning the Grade 2 Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle for Colin Tizzard on only his second start under rules. The winning son of Presenting was purchased by Tom Malone at the 2017 Festival Sale from Loughanmore Farm (Ian Ferguson).
